Norton launches X-Tremely effective new range of flap discs

Global leader Norton abrasives introduces the latest addition to their ‘best’ tier flap disc range; Norton X-Treme R860.
A new development in the recipe related to the zirconia grain and bond are key components of the high performance and aggressive cutting action shown by the disc.

In product testing, discs have proved to have a higher initial cut rate, reduced wear and better performance withstanding high pressure in heavy duty applications than its predecessor, and other zirconia discs. There are clear advantages here for the end user, where fewer discs are required and process cost can be seen to reduce.

Grinding can be a costly and lengthy process and Norton has made it it’s objective to reduce both of these fundamentals for the end user. Whether it’s grinding down to bare metal, removing burrs and cutting edges, or preparing or removing welds, X-Treme has significant advantages over its equivalents.

“With Norton X-Treme R860 we’ve really looked into how we can optimise the recipe to bring benefits to the user.” Explains Rui-Manuel Coelho, Channel Manager, Saint-Gobain Abrasives. He goes on to say “On carbon steel, construction steel and cast iron, very tough metals, we’ve seen X-Treme R860 really excel in removing material during the first few minutes of use, even in grits 60 and 80, where we’d usually expect less aggression. During customer trials, we were even asked if this disc was ceramic!”

For ‘X-Tremely effective’ performance, Norton is certainly creating a stir in the metal fabrication market.
