The Power of Norton. In Your Hands.
Increasingly stringent requirements make abrasives a key choice in high quality gear production. The Norton range of gear grinding wheels meet the tighter tolerances, higher profile accuracy, and improved surface finishes required. Whether the primary motivator is cost or performance Norton sales, product management, and application engineers offer a complete support system, which is essential to success.
The Right Wheels for Your Business
Norton Gear Grinding Wheels
Norton gear grinding wheels master the challenges of worm, dual-worm, profile and bevel grinding, from superior form holding to burn-free grinding. Our Norton reps will work with you to understand your exact requirements and create a customized wheel specification. If you want an overview of Norton technology, these initial specifications will point you in the right direction.
Worm Grinding
Available up to a max operating speed of 80 m/s, Norton worm grinding wheels can meet the high speeds needed for high volume production. These wheels profile an exact gear form into the workpiece. With multiple passes, the wheel grinds the gear teeth to produce the desired gear geometry.
Bevel Grinding
Applied to a metal plate, spiral bevel grinding wheels typically run at very slow speeds. Bevel gears are conically shaped gears often used in differentials. Grinding of spiral bevel gears is performed with cup wheels following a profile grinding process.
Profile Grinding
Achieve the highest metal removal rates when grinding from solid with Norton profile grinding wheels. In profile grinding, a straight wheel runs between two opposing teeth to grind both surfaces at the same time, profiling the exact shape of the gear tooth.
